MOTHER THERESA
Augnus Gonsha Bojakshuvu was born in 1910. She was born in
Yugoslavia. Her father was a farmer. She had a brother and a sister. She was
the eldest one. Young Augnus was kind and helpful. Her heart was an ocean of
kindness. She served the poor.
Augnus was against marriage. She wanted to become a nun. Her
heart yearned for service. She derived sovereign satisfaction from such
selfless service. It made her more active. It was in born. She was not for a
limited role. Service knows no bounds. Augnus took orders as a nun. She became
Theresa. She came to India in 1929. She started serving as a teacher. She was
moved at the plight of the poor orphans and lepers. So she started her service
to the poor in Calcutta slum. She also started schools and homes for the
orphans.
Mother Theresa considered love as service. Selflessness is
divine love. Love is all life giving light. Light is born out of service to the
down trodden. Service is not just duty. It is spontaneous suffering to
alleviate the misery of others. It is sacrifice. Theresa founded a number of
societies to remove the evil of poverty and ignorance.
Mother Theresa received several awards – national and
international. She spent all the money in serving the poor. Charity and service
are one and the same. She founded a number of institutions in different parts
of the world. She received Nobel Prize in 1979. She was given the title of
Bharat Ratna.
Mother Theresa is the fount of selflessness. Service without
love is selfishness. Theresa served the sick and the poor with sincere concern.
She embodied Christian and Hindu ethos of service. Service with love is
sacrifice. It is vicarious suffering. It is a relentless crusade against the
forces of darkness. Theresa is the veritable incarnation of compassion,
tolerance and service.
