WHY EDUCATION?

Man is the thinking animal. Rational faculty is the unique faculty. It is the source of all learning. Learning trains the mind for logical thinking. It is for producing the sweetness of sense. Education improves the power of thought. It results in knowledge explosion. Knowledge is for progress. Progress implies peace and prosperity. Knowledge makes us self-reliant. It gives us immense inner strength. It keeps us even dynamic.

Education must give us character. It for honesty and hard work. Character implies acquisition of a number of talents. Talents are for serving the society in a disciplined manner. Character is for promoting good scientifically. Goodness lies in selfless service. It is broad mindedness.

Education, pursued sincerely fosters our reverence for life. It is non-violence. Harming anyone physically and mentally is violence. Respecting everyone including birds and beasts is reverence for life. Education must sustain our reverence for life in its innumerable forms.

Today there are mountains of knowledge everywhere. But there is poverty, misery and disease. There is racial hatred, communal violence and border conflicts. There are wars. All this goes against the very spirit of education. Education must contribute for one world order. It is for mutual love and trust based on human values. All countries and continents are like limbs of human body. Education must give us that irrevocable faith in the human values.

Man’s life is incomplete without education. He acquires knowledge through education. Knowledge steadily unfolds the secrets of mind and matter. Degrees are only a means – the end being noble living. Learning is for purposeful living. It is for moulding ourselves in the light of what we learn. That’s why everybody requires good education to grow in goodness and greatness.
