THE U.N.O

Our century witnessed two world wars besides thousands of wars at regional levels. Oceans of blood are shed. Lakhs of people are rendered homeless. Millions of children become orphans. The two world wars exposed man’s barbarity. Civilization received a rude blow. Humanity was shaken to the roots.

The UNO came into existence on October 24th, 1945. It was founded to eliminate wars totally. Bridges of understanding are to be built for lasting peace. All countries must maintain friendly relations. All conflicts should be resolved through dialogue and discussion. Poverty should be eliminated. Democratic temper has to replace the use of military might. Our aim is to create a war-free peaceful world.

There are some principle organs (bodies) to translate those aims (ideas) into realities. The General Assembly, the Security Council and the Secretariat are the propellers of the UNO. The Security Council ensures peace. It consist of the permanent members. They have veto power. The Security Council is ever vigilant. The Secretariat is the administration apparatus headed by the Security General.

The UNO steers clear of all power blocks and hegemony of some countries. It upholds the principles of peace involving democratic processes. The UNO highlights the need for interdependence. Political considerations are secondary. Every area needs peace and every region prosperity. Free trade ensures economic equality. Mutual trust must replace political rivalry. Thus, the UNO aims at creating one-world order.

The UNO discusses steps to curb international terrorism. It musters international support for freedom struggles. The UNO takes measures to combat floods and famines. Durable peace and economic prosperity are one. The UNO is the guardian of human rights. It tries to create awareness with regard to the safety and security of our mother earth the sanctuary of mankind.
