Dr. B.R. AMBEDKAR
Bhim Rao Ambedkar was born on April 14, 1891. He was a mahar
by birth. Poverty and destitution were his companions. He worked hard in his
early life. He was quite tender. Hardships never deterred him in his efforts. He
was honest and humble. He had deep interest in studies.
Ambedkar passed Matriculation in 1907. He studied F.A in
Bombay. Baroda Maharaja helped him. He passed BA in the first division in 1912.
He studied MA in Columbia University. He got his PH.D., for his thesis on India
National Income. Dr. Ambedkar had unflagging zeal for learning. This was his
invincible strength. He was against the curse of casteism.
Ambedkar stood for social equality. Casteism and communalism
cut at the very roots of social unity. Untouchability is an egoistic expression
of the upper classes. All our achievements come to nothingness in the face of
untouchability. Selfless social service alone banishes untouchability. Ambedkar
waged a war against social evils like casteism and poverty. He fought for the
welfare of Scheduled Tribes. In 1930 he attended the first Round Table
Conference.
Ambedkar detested social injustice. He was highly critical of
the role of upper classes. He was never bitter. He wanted social reforms for a
fair social order. He was the chairman of our Constitutional Drafting
Committee. He was for constitutional methods to solve our problems. He advocated
democratic procedures.
Dr.B.R. Ambedkar was a staunch patriot. He believed in
honesty and integrity. He was a veteran crusader. He dedicated himself to the
cause of the backward classes. He derived indomitable courage from books and
personalities. He served humbly as a master. He embraced Buddhism.
